The story of The Hot 27's goes all the way back in 1979, when teen mod Andy Baker spotted teen Clash fan Reg Shaw at his place of work. Within a day or so plans were under way to get a band together. Meanwhile Pat Evans was already out playing drums with The Gas Taps and Bill Waine was playing bass and singing with local heroes Out of Order. Fast forward to 1985 and we find The Cass Carnaby 5 featuring trouble incarnate Neil 'Baby' Garland on vocals and includig Pat on drums.Andy on guitar and Jason on bass. They released their debut song 'Captain Scarlet' on their own label Maxwell Street. In an ever changing line-up Reg replaced Jason, and the group carried on until egos, drink and malarkey finished them off. Bill was improving his already impressive CV with stints in Thin Air and The Long March. Everyone carried on with their lives: Pat played with Chaso UK for several years: Reg formed London Calling, top Clash tribute: Bill became successful in Dynamo's Rhythm Aces. Andy and Jason married and a total of 8 children between them. By 2011 an early 3 piece Hot 27's had Supported Captain Sensible in Bristol but was clearly going nowhere. Then, in a couple of days it all changed. Reg bumped into Bill, and The Hot 27's were re-invented. Then shattering news: Neil Baby took his own life. At the funeral and the following drink-up Randy joined the Hot 27's.
So where does that leave us in 2014? We have five guys who have known each otehr for over 20 years playing music they always wanted to: Powerful garage punk but with a little extra. The debut album 'You Never Had It Better' raced to 10 in the UK download charts. Plans for 2014 include: Vinyl E.P. release late Spring, more gigs. So don't forget:
