DJ DON LETTS (Musician/Filmmaker/BBC Radio 6) + CLUMSY

Filmmaker and DJ Don Letts after his previous sell-out shows at the Thunderbolt. He came to notoriety in the late 70's as the DJ that single handedly turned a whole generation of punks onto reggae. It was whilst as a DJ at the first punk club 'The Roxy' in 1977, that Don adopted the punk D.I.Y ethic and begun to make his first film 'The Punk Rock Movie'. Shot on Super-8mm it is the only documentary on the U.K punk scene w/ Sex Pistols-The Clash and many others. This led to a period directing over 300 music videos for a diverse range of artists.

Don currently presents a weekly radio show on BBC 6 Music. As the “Dub Cartel Sound System” Don has done DJ sets for Stussy, The Rough Trade 25th Anniversary, Adidas, The Big Chill Jarvis Cocker’s Desperate Sound, System, Trojan, Ninja Tune Lee Perry’s and Massive Attack's Meltdown, Glastonbury, Lovebox Bestival to name a few. Don continues to D.J playing a strictly old and new school dub reggae. His set is in the spirit of his time as DJ at London’s legendary Roxy club back in ’77. So get there early!

JOHN OTWAY and WILD WILLY BARRETT

The pair first achieved notoriety with an eye-watering performance on Old Grey Whistle Test and subsequent hit single Really Free in 1977.

Otway's heady mix of blind ambition and rank incompetence was to keep this microstar shining for almost two decades despite his ability to turn any situation to his own disadvantage. His autobiography Rock and Roll's Greatest Failure out sold, by a factor of ten, all the records he had released since his hit.

Wild Willy Barrett is one of the most accomplished multi-instrumentalists working today, playing acoustic classical guitar with an original style and virtuosity few could match. His musical style is witty and his humour onstage is dry.

Friday 17 October

JOHN HEGLEY + Diego Brown and the Good Fairy

Mr Hegley was born in Newington Green, North London, and was educated in Luton, Bristol and Bradford University.

His first public performance monies came from busking his songs, initially outside a shoeshop in Hull, in the late Seventies. He performed on the streets of London in the early Eighties, fronting the Popticians, with whom he also recorded two sessions for John Peel, and has since been a frequent performer of his words, sung and spoken, on both local and national radio.

He has produced ten books of verse and prose pieces, two CDs and one mug, but his largest source of income is from stages on his native island. An Edinburgh Festival regular, he is noted for his exploration of such diverse topics as dog hair, potatoes, handkerchieves and the misery of human existence.

He is an occasional DJ, dancer and workshop leader, using drawing, poetry and gesture. He has been awarded an honorary Doctorate of Arts from what is now the University of Bedfordshire, and once performed in a women's prison in Columbia.

ANDY FAIRWEATHER LOW and the Low Riders

ZONE-O-TONE UK TOUR 2014:Andy Fairweather Low’s pedigree is the stuff rock dreams are made of. He first came to prominence at the vanguard of the new youthful expression of music as the lead singer in Amen Corner. The 60s saw them clock up hit after pop hit. Songs such as 'Bend Me Shape Me', 'Hello Suzy', '( If Paradise is ) Half As Nice' are internationally remembered to this day. But if you were paying close attention you might have picked up a clue in the magnificent ‘Gin House’ to Andy’s future musical collaborations.

Since the early days Andy has gone on to work with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, David Crosby, The Band, Elton John, Roger Waters, Richard and Linda Thompson, Dave Gilmour, The Who, BB King, Joe Cocker, Steve Winwood, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn, Jimmy Page, Ronnie Lane, Linda Ronstadt, Roddy Frame, Emmylou Harris, Joe Satriani, the Bee Gees, Jeff Beck, The Impressions, Lonnie Donegan, Ringo Starr, Steve Gadd, David Sanborn, Benmont Tench, Warren Zevon, Charlie Watts, Mary J. Blige, Dave Edmunds, Georgie Fame, Bonnie Raitt, Otis Rush, Phil Collins, Van Morrison, Gerry Rafferty, Chris Rea, Buddy Guy, Chris Barber, Jackson Browne, Bill Wyman, Sheryl Crow, Clarence ‘Gatemouth’ Brown, Pete Townshend... and hundreds more.

Now following a solo path, his first solo album in 24 years Sweet Soulful Music was released late in 2007 followed by The Very Best Of Andy Fairweather Low which was released in the UK in June 2008 and the Live DVD followed hot on it’s heels.

A world tour as musical director with Roger Waters band then a European tour with Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings might be difficult to top for most people - but not for Andy Fairweather Low who just segued smoothly into a major solo tour last summer with some of the world’s finest musicians in his band. Following an acclaimed UK Tour in Autumn 2012 Andy completed a third tour with The Low Riders in Germany.

2013 saw Andy & The band opening the shows on Eric’s European tour headline The Americana Festival and complete their first tour in Japan with 8 shows in Tokyo. Their UK Autumn 2013 tour in support of the Zone O Tone was so well received that further early Spring dates in 2014 were added in the UK and Germany and 2014 started with the band on Bob Harris’ rock show playing in session and, when they came back from Germany before picking up their UK tour leg, they appeared for two nights as guests in an all star cast celebrating Albert Lee’s 70th birthday at The Cadogan Hall, London where they were also enlisted as the house band for a number of household names.

Andy and bassist Dave Bronze then picked up touring again as members of Eric Clapton’s band and for good measure Andy took part, playing guitar, in a special all star re-recording for Radio 2 of Rock Around The Clock for a series celebrating the Birth Of Rock & Roll which was broadcast in May this year.

Andy Fairweather Low – Guitar & Vocals, Dave Bronze – Bass & Vocals, Paul Beavis – Drums, Nick Pentelow – Sax & Clarinet.

THE GODFATHERS

+ The Lone Sharks + The Fizzies

Notoriously 'ard and never ones to suffer fools or mix their words, The Godfathers are back with a vengeance. The Godfathers were formed by Peter and Chris Coyne from the ashes of The Sid Presley Experience in 1985. After acclaimed independent single releases produced by Vic Maile and collected on their debut Link label album `Hit By Hit`they signed to Epic Records in 1987. Touring extensively the UK, Europe and the USA, The Godfathers earned a reputation for their no-holds barred live shows and electrifying brand of primal rock ‘n’ roll. Their guitar-driven alternative rock sound stood out in the electronica-driven music scene of the UK at the time, while laying the foundations for the Brit Pop rock resurgence of the nineties. Particularly Their biggest track “Birth, School, Work, Death” made the top 40 US Billboard charts in the late eighties after heavy US College Radio play but, they were only marginally recognised in the UK. .

The reality is The Godfathers have never played a bad gig. They are too passionate about their work and too loyal to their crowd to leave anything to chance. The Godfathers live performances are hour long thunderbolts of pure passionate rock 'n’ roll, with influences varying from Johnny Cash to Dr Feelgood to the Sex Pistols and all specially delivered with a 'Best of British’ stamp of approval.

THE LONE SHARKS: Fresh from recording new material for a release later this year, the Lone Sharks are back and ready for action. Now mixing their punk attitude, garage rock energy and pop melodies with diverse tinges of rockabilly, Northern Soul and and country-rock, the Lone Sharks are a wild ride through the history and future of rock and roll.

The melodies are exuberant and quickly memorable Failsafe Magazine

THE LURKERS + Viva Le Punk

Inspired by American bands such as the Ramones and the New York Dolls, the British beat boom of the sixties and Glam Rock acts like Slade and Sweet, THE LURKERS formed in West London in mid 1976 and quickly forged their own identity with their own brand of punk tunes and lyrics encompassing subjects such as social unacceptability and personal politics.

The band built up a huge loyal following around the punk heyday of 1977 and signed to Beggar's Banquet where they scored five top forty hits between 1977 and 1979 . They also appeared on Top of the Pops and many other television shows and became regulars on the popular Radio One John Peel Show.

These memorable 70s punk rockers and first ever Beggars Banquet signings are remembered as 'The British Ramones' given their style reminiscent of American punk rock.

CRH Music in Conjunction with The Thunderbolt Presents;

WILLIE NILE + Jefferson Grizzard

WILLIE NILE: Willie Nile embodies every sense of rock ’n’ roll urgency— from arms-outreached anthems to stiff upper-lipped riffs that scream, Nothing in the world matters more than this moment. He is a cheerfully non-iconic rocker, with old-school cool oozing from every pore.

Nile’s defining quality among his fans is his charismatic spirit. It’s a passion and enthusiasm that is infectious to his fans and has earned Nile the admiration of fans and peers alike, from Shea Stadium to the clubs and concert halls of Europe and his live performances are legendary to his fans.

Willie is an American singer-songwriter originally from Buffalo NY who began his career over thirty years ago and although his career has been interrupted several times by various problems, but he has always returned to recording and performing in the US and Europe, re-establishing himself as a singer-songwriter and one of rocks great live performers. In 1980 Nile released his self-titled debut album which according to one critic remains 'one of the most thrilling post-Byrds folk-rock albums of all time. During his career Nile has recorded and performed with several musicians, including Ringo Starr, Tori Amos, Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Ian Hunter, and Barenaked Ladies.

Over three decades of musical exploits, Willie Nile has earned a global cult following, including marquee-name admirers like Bono, Lou Reed, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. 'I’m a longtime friend and fan of Willie,' says Springsteen sidekick Nils Lofgren. 'On the last couple of E Street Band tours, Bruce has brought him onstage with us and had him sing and play. … He’s great at it.'

June 2013 saw the release of his eighth full length studio album American Ride.'People who’ve heard this album say it’s as good a record as I’ve ever made, and I don’t disagree,' he states, adding, 'I definitely think it’s as good a collection of songs as I’ve put together. I’m still learning as I go, and it gets easier every time in. I still love what I do and I’m probably feeling more inspired now than I ever have. I really do feel like I’m just getting started'

Willie proves that his live performance hasn’t lost any of his original fire and energy that has put him up there with his peers as one rock’s greatest songwriters and most energetic live performers! A show that epitomises the true spirit of rock and definitely not to be missed

JEFFERSON GRIZZARD: Nashville, Tennessee based singer/songwriter. He released his first album 'A Crack in the Door' on Back Porch Syndicate Records in 2011. His new release 'Learning How To Lie' is available October 24th, also on Back Porch Syndicate Records. Recent performances have landed him in Hollywood, CA as well as New York City. Grizzard is a true wordsmith, eschewing the current state of popular songwriting. Bits of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Tom Waits emerge at times as he weaves together his unique brand of storytelling with melodies and influences of days gone by. His music is hard to categorize. Grizzard floats seamlessly between tortured ballads and blues to apocalyptic hard rock. He is currently touring in support of his new release throughout United States and Europe.

Thursday 27 November

SNG Promotions Presents

3 DAFT MONKEYS

3 DAFT MONKEYS: Cornish gypsy-folk band 3 Daft Monkeys’ 4-piece line-up features Athene on fiddle, Tim on 12-string guitar & vocals, Lukas on bass guitar and Richie on percussion, adding a fuller and richer sound. The band weave world music influences around classic folk melodies and their passion, intensity and sheer joy of life mixed with their infectious dancing rhythms will leave you breathless, enthralled and exhilarated. The desire to dance at one of their live shows is irresistible!

3 Daft Monkeys release their sixth studio album 'Of Stones and Bones' in 2013 - their most story-led and theatrical album to date; a compelling collection of songs that draws the listener into the bizarre and mysterious world of Cornish tales and superstitions, both ancient and modern.

Tim Ashton and Athene Roberts form the heart of the band, and during a break from gigging due to the birth of their son Arlo, Ashton turned his songwriting gaze on his adopted home county of Cornwall. The wild Celtic heritage and folklore of Kernow shines through in these songs, the roots of which delve deep, touching the stones and bones that are the fabric of this epic landscape and its wild and colourful inhabitants.

Characters are brought to life in a theatre of sound, from upbeat mischievous musings on the god of the sea, Bucca Dhu, to the tragic and heart-wrenching tale of Jenny Trayer and her unfortunate child, from tales of curses inspired by a hair-raising night in the Boscastle Witch Museum to the eccentric story of Reverend Hawker, all the colourful otherworldly life of the region is here.

In traditional 3 Daft Monkeys style, the songs hold up a looking glass to their subjects and invite us to step through, much like Alice into a Wonderland. Whilst exploring the old tales, Ashton manages to throw new light on them; in 'St Agnes the Giant Killer’ he poses the question of whether the sainted local heroine Agnes was just a cold hearted murderess? Likewise in the playful 'One and All' he considers what has happened to the elusive Cornish quest for independence.

Whilst containing the intoxicating blend of rhythms and styles that is instantly recognisable as 3 Daft Monkeys, there is also an added dimension of traditional Cornish tunes within the songs. Of Stones and Bones' is musically the most diverse album the band has produced, and the first that double bass player Lukas Drinkwater has performed on. He also lends his vocal skills making it possible for the first time to create spine-tingling three-part harmonies. To add a new dynamic impact, percussionist Rich Mulryne, has been invited to lend his varied drumming styles both to this album and the live shows.

3DM is the perfect band to engage with this mythic landscape, themselves icons of the underground counter culture of the last decade.

MIKE PETERS (THE ALARM)

Mike Peters, lead singer and songwriter of internationally acclaimed Welsh band The Alarm will this year embark on a huge 30 date acoustic World Tour, celebrating 30 years of The Alarm's distinctive Red Poppy. The exploding Red Poppy made it's iconic debut on the band's 'Marching On' single (released via the IRS Record label back in 1982) and has featured in some shape or form on every Alarm release since.

The Red Poppy Tour begins with an Independence day 'Spirit Of '76' concert in New York on July 4th, followed by dates all across Europe (including concerts on the summits of both Snowdon and Ben Nevis - The Highest Gig in Britain on August 25th), and closing at The Alarm's legendary Gathering event in Peters' hometown of Prestatyn, North Wales on January 25th 2013. The Mike Peters 'Red Poppy' Tour will carry the life affirming spirit of The Alarm as epitomised in it's flaming blood red poppy logo (which in itself is a symbol of both renewal and life) to music fans everywhere.

Outside of Mike's duties as front man for The Alarm (and more recently as guest vocalist with Scottish celt-rockers Big Country), Mike has proved himself as an inspirational solo acoustic performer and (as a two times cancer survivor), founder of what is now regarded as the world's leading rock and roll cancer charity 'Love Hope Strength Foundation'.

Mike Peters is currently preparing for the release of a brand new Alarm record Vinyl - The Official Soundtrack Album, to be released in 2013 with a major UK Alarm tour to coincide with 'Vinyl' - the film's British cinematic debut and remains as passionate as ever about his music, Wales and his charity Love Hope Strength.

When Mike was first diagnosed with cancer in 1995, quitting music wasn't an option and now in 2012 and in his second remission from Leukaemia, Mike is still challenging himself and his audience through music and the outreach of his charitable actions. In Mike's own words and from the title of one of his own songs `Never give it up without a fight`

And it is to this man alone we turn tonight; every bit as powerful and commanding armed with acoustic guitar, harmonica and those songs of hope, spirituality, camaraderie and lifelong friendship amongst fans; fifteen hit singles including 68 Guns, Spirit of 76, Rain In The Summertime, Strength and The Stand; five million albums sold; pioneering musicality and stage-sharing duties with Dylan, U2 and Neil Young. It all adds up, don't it? No wonder Mike Peters is a legend.

LENE

Thursday 05 March

LENE LOVICH BAND

Detroit-born legendary post-punk pop singer Lene Lovich hit the top of the UK charts with her single 'Lucky Number' in 1979, and was crowned the 'Queen of Quirk', influencing a generation of pop and alternative acts, from Nina Hagen to Boy George, and from Madonna to Dresden Dolls. A normally reclusive figure, Lovich turned her back on the limelight after her third album No Man’s Land was released in 1982 amid disagreements with her record company about her unwillingness to compromise her groundbreaking visual style for the then newly emergent MTV.

Subsequently she has recorded only two albums in the last thirty years. Lovich’s unique vocal and visual style, along with her catchy but experimental songwriting, has exerted a huge influence over alternative pop culture and garnered her many plaudits and continued interest. She has been described as everything from 'Kate Bush on acid' to the New Wave Maria Callas'. Her hits 'Lucky Number', 'Say When', 'Bird Song' and 'New Toy' are still regular features in the clubs and radio of Europe, Japan, Australia and the USA.

In May 2012, Lene joined forces with Subterraneans frontman Jude Rawlins for a celebration of the music of German composer Kurt Weill. During the tour they hatched an idea to form a new band to take Lene’s classic material back on the road. Jude immediately recruited bassist Lydia Fischer and drummer Morgan King in June, and keyboardist Kirsten Morrison joined in July. It was a baptism of fire for the new band, after just one low-key show at London’s much-loved 12 Bar Club, their next appearance was headlining the annual Drop Dead Festival in Berlin. Since then they have, in the words of one reviewer, been 'festooned with metaphorical bouquets'.across the UK and Europe. Their UK tour in 2013 culminated in a triumphant sell-out show at London's Cargo, a feat repeated in Berlin a few weeks later at the celebrated Wild At Heart in Kreuzberg.

With new bassist Valkyrie on board, the band are back on the road in 2014.
